“The Assassin(s)” Cancels All Scheduled Events At 2026 Busan International Film Festival

“The Assassin(s)” will no longer attend its scheduled events at the Busan International Film Festival.

On October 2, Hive Media Corp., the production company behind the film, announced that it had canceled the film’s planned Busan International Film Festival appearances.

Below is its official statement:

Hello, this is Hive Media Corp., the production company behind “The Assassin(s).”

After careful consideration and taking into account the safety of audiences and attendees, we have decided not to participate in the Busan International Film Festival Opening Ceremony or the Outdoor Stage Greeting scheduled for October 7.

After carefully reviewing the current situation surrounding the film, we made this decision to ensure everyone’s safety and allow the event to proceed smoothly. We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been looking forward to these events, and deeply appreciate your understanding.

The outdoor stage greeting for “The Assassin(s)” was originally scheduled to be attended by director Hur Jin Ho and actors Yoo Hae Jin, Park Hae Il, and Lee Min Ho.

“The Assassin(s)” follows an investigation into the mystery and forces behind the 1974 assassination attempt that shocked South Korea.

Since its release on September 23, the film has faced controversy over allegations of historical distortion surrounding certain elements of the story.

Amid the controversy, Lee Min Ho’s “Actors House” event at the 31st Busan International Film Festival, originally scheduled for October 7, was also canceled. As a result, all official Busan International Film Festival events related to “The Assassin(s)” have now been called off.

The 31st Busan International Film Festival will kick off on October 6 and run for 10 days through October 15.

Moon Geun Young, Ko A Seong, And Kim Si Ah Confirmed To Star In New Film By “Train To Busan” Director

Actresses Moon Geun Young, Ko A Seong, and Kim Si Ah have finished filming for the upcoming film “Yeto” (literal title)!

“Yeto” tells the story of two influencer sisters who go on a camping trip, only for the younger sister to disappear at the site of a mysterious, defunct cult. The film is co-directed by Yeon Sang Ho, known for the films “Train to Busan” and “Colony” and the drama “Hellbound,” and director Yoon Young Woo, who previously served on the production teams for “Train to Busan” and “Parasite.”

Moon Geun Young returns to the big screen as a lead for the first time in nine years, playing the role of Su Ah, an influencer who puts her life with her younger sister Min Ah on display. She reunites with director Yeon Sang Ho following her appearance in Season 2 of the “Hellbound” series, where she received acclaim for her unconventional acting transformation.

Ko A Seong transforms into Deok Hee, who encounters the two sisters after they enter a mysterious world. This project marks Go Ah Sung’s first collaboration with director Yeon Sang Ho, and she is expected to showcase a new side of herself on screen.

Kim Si Ah plays Min Ah, the younger sister who experiences confusion while living alongside her influencer older sister Su Ah.

Director Yeon Sang Ho shared his thoughts, saying, “‘Yeto’ is a project that combines original visual effects with drama. I was personally amazed during filming by the explosive performances delivered by Moon Geun Young, Ko A Seong, and Kim Si Ah as they took on these unique characters. As this is a film that requires a significant amount of post-production work, we will do our best in the remaining stages. Please look forward to it.”
