Watch: “The East Palace” Director And Cast Share The Stories Behind The Series’ Production In Making-Of Video

“The East Palace” has unveiled a new making-of video!

“The East Palace” follows the story of Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), who can traverse the world of ghosts, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady with the ability to hear ghosts, as they are summoned by the King (Cho Seung Woo) to unearth the cursed palace’s secrets.

The newly released making-of video highlights the meticulous work that went into bringing the series’ supernatural world to life, from its intense action sequences to its detailed production design.

Discussing the series’ sword-fighting scenes, Nam Joo Hyuk shared, “Since this series involves a lot of sword fighting, I spent a lot of time memorizing and practicing the moves.”

The production team also revealed the thought process behind creating the show’s spirits and otherworldly beings. The director explained, “When creating Gwi Mae or spirits from the other world, we thought a lot about how far we should go while keeping it broadly appealing and not too unsettling for viewers.”

One of the series’ key visual elements is the contrast between the real world and the Realm of Gwi. The director explained, “I wanted the two worlds to look different at first glance. We focused on color because it is the most immediately recognizable element.”

The director added, “We thought about how to make it feel like a different world. We ended up using red, amber and, later on, yellow.”

The cast members also praised the detailed production design and the atmosphere created on set, expressing their admiration for the effort that went into building the series’ unique fantasy setting.

Highlighting what viewers can expect from the story, Nam Joo Hyuk said, “Gu Cheon’s desperate and intense fight to break the curse over the palace until the very end is a highlight.”

Roh Yoon Seo added, “As you follow and dig into the story, you will enjoy trying to discover the truth.”

Yoo Ah In, Lee Sung Min, And Yoon Kyung Ho In Talks For New Vampire Film By “Exhuma” Director

Yoo Ah In may be returning to the big screen with a new film.

On July 3, MyDaily reported that Yoo Ah In has been confirmed to star in the upcoming film “Vampire” (working title).

“Vampire” is the latest project from director Jang Jae Hyun, who successfully established himself as a leading filmmaker in the occult genre with “The Priests,” “Svaha: The Sixth Finger,” and “Exhuma.” The film follows a vampire hunter, a priest, and the people whose lives become intertwined with theirs as they pursue vampires. The large-scale production is also said to feature several major Russian characters alongside its Korean cast.

Yoo Ah In will reportedly play a vampire hunter, while Lee Sung Min has reportedly been cast as a priest. Yoon Kyung Ho is also said to have joined the lineup.

Responding to the report, a representative from the film’s investor and distributor NEW said, “Nothing has been confirmed yet.” The representative added, “We are currently coordinating with various actors, including those who have been mentioned. We will share more once the cast is finalized,” taking a cautious stance on the report.

Previously, in December 2025, when reports claimed that Yoo Ah In had been cast in “Vampire,” director Jang Jae Hyun denied the speculation, saying it was “completely untrue.” He explained that the script had not yet been completed and, although he had recently reached out to Yoo Ah In to check on how he was doing, he had never officially offered him a role in the project.

If confirmed, “Vampire” would mark Yoo Ah In’s first new acting project in approximately four years, following the hiatus he took after becoming embroiled in drug-related charges in 2022.

“Vampire” is expected to begin pre-production soon, with filming tentatively scheduled to start as early as October.

“Notes From The Last Row” Director Shares Key Points To Watch Out For

Netflix’s “Notes from the Last Row” has unveiled new stills featuring its cast!

Based on the Spanish play of the same name, “Notes from the Last Row” is a psychological thriller that follows Heo Mun Oh (Choi Min Sik), a failed writer-turned-Korean literature professor who hasn’t published a new work in 20 years. After discovering the extraordinary writing talent of Lee Kang (Choi Hyun Wook), a student who always sits in the back row of his classroom, Heo Mun Oh gradually becomes obsessed with the young man’s writing.

The series is generating anticipation for both the lead actors’ performances and the direction of Kim Kyu Tae, who is known for his nuanced storytelling.

Having to portray the characters’ inner worlds in detail, Kim Kyu Tae said, “If you follow the characters’ fluctuating psychology and inner lives, you will find yourself deeply immersed in the work before you know it.”

The newly released stills capture everything from the subtle tension between Heo Mun Oh and Lee Kang to the surrounding characters. In Heo Mun Oh’s empty gaze as he sits still, a long-standing sense of inferiority and defeat is clearly evident, while Lee Kang’s facial expression as he stares intently at something is difficult to decipher, heightening intrigue about what he may be thinking.

More stills show Heo Mun Oh deeply focused on his laptop in his study room, and Lee Kang piecing together shredded paper in his room, hinting at the stories they are creating within their own private spaces.

Adding to this are Heo Mun Oh’s college classmate Kim Su Hun (Heo Joon Ho), a successful author living a life of comfort with no apparent lack, and Kim Su Hun’s wife Ahn Eun Joo (Kim Yoon Jin) who, in a different way from Lee Kang, bring major disruptions to Heo Mun Oh’s life. The couple, who are also the primary reason for Heo Mun Oh’s deep sense of inferiority, further hint at fractures they may cause in his daily life.

Heo Mun Oh’s wife Jo Hyun Sook (Jin Kyung) is more curious than anyone about the private literature lessons her husband has recently begun after he had appeared bored with his daily life, and she displays a wide range of emotions by his side.

“Husbands in Action” is an action-comedy about an ex-husband and a current husband who reluctantly join forces to rescue a wife kidnapped by a dangerous criminal organization.

Directed by comedy powerhouse Park Gyu Tae, who helmed “6/45,” “Husbands in Action” is already generating laughs with its on-set stills.

The upcoming film depicts the clashes between an ex-husband and a current husband, a detective and a criminal, and next-generation and old-generation gang bosses. Director Park Gyu Tae remarked, “By taking the premise of an ex-husband and current husband working together, then adding the conflict between next-generation and old-generation bosses, I created a more finely layered comedy film.”

The director also noted that action is an essential genre element in the film. He said, “In a desperate situation where a family is kidnapped and must be rescued, action sequences unfolding across land, sea, and air in various locations will offer another layer of entertainment.”

Kim Dae Myeung Is A Respected Academy Director With A Sinister Double Life In “The Husband”

Upcoming drama “The Husband” has unveiled new stills of Kim Dae Myeung in his role as a chilling villain!

“The Husband” is a romance thriller that follows Kang Tae Joo (Namkoong Min), a man who becomes entangled in a desperate fight against a ruthless criminal in order to rescue his wife, who is kidnapped just before their divorce.

Kim Dae Myeung stars as Noh Man Hee, the villain responsible for kidnapping Kang Tae Joo’s wife Go Se Yoon (Lee Seol). On the surface, Noh Man Hee is the kind and well-mannered director of a computer academy who is beloved by both children and elderly residents in the neighborhood. However, he harbors a cruel secret that no one could have anticipated.

Explaining why he chose the project, Kim Dae Myeung shared, “When I first received the script, I was so engrossed that I read it in one sitting. The story had a powerful sense of immersion, and it kept making me curious about what would happen next.”

He continued, “I wanted to play a character with multiple layers and different sides coexisting within one person, and Noh Man Hee was exactly that kind of character. I felt he was someone who couldn’t be easily defined by a single face. Throughout filming, I hoped viewers would also find themselves wondering, ‘Who is this person really?’”

For that reason, Kim Dae Myeung did not approach Noh Man Hee as a straightforward villain. “I thought he could easily come across as a very one-dimensional character,” he explained. “So I constantly tried to understand why Noh Man Hee made these choices and what emotions ultimately led him to his current actions.”

The actor also paid close attention to the character’s appearance. “I wanted him to look like a very neat and ordinary person you might encounter in everyday life, so I often wore shirts and buttoned them all the way up to the collar,” he said. “As the story unfolds over a short period of time and Man Hee gradually changes, I wanted to make that transformation more visible through subtle changes in his appearance as well.”

Koo Kyo Hwan Can’t Hide His Nerves As He Takes First Step As Film Director In “We Are All Trying Here”

“We Are All Trying Here” has unveiled new stills ahead of its upcoming episode!

“We Are All Trying Here” tells the story of Hwang Dong Man (Koo Kyo Hwan), an aspiring film director who, surrounded by successful friends, believes he is the only one whose life isn’t working out. Consumed by anguish, envy, and jealousy, he sets out on a journey in search of peace.

Spoilers

The upcoming Episode 9 will depict Hwang Dong Man finally landing the opportunity of a lifetime—his long-awaited directorial debut—after spending years dreaming of brighter days amid overwhelming feelings of worthlessness.

The newly released stills capture the pivotal moment when Hwang Dong Man visits the Film Promotion Association alongside Go Bak Film CEO Go Hye Jin (Kang Mal Geum) to sign his contract. Previously, Go Hye Jin boldly cut ties with the greed-driven Choi Dong Hyun (Choi Won Young) and Ma Jae Young (Kim Jong Hoon), choosing Hwang Dong Man’s screenplay “We Create the Weather For You” despite the risk of losing billions of won.

For Hwang Dong Man, who spent years alone in his room repeatedly practicing imaginary acceptance speeches for Best New Director awards, the selection of his script marks the beginning of his “fantasy” finally becoming reality. However, the “real ring” proves far from easy. His visibly tense expression in the stills sharply contrasts with Go Hye Jin’s steady and commanding gaze, hinting at the turbulent production journey ahead.

One of the key points to watch will be whether Hwang Dong Man—once merely a loud critic—can successfully lead over 200 difficult cast and crew members as a first-time director. As Go Hye Jin coldly warns him, “You have to step into the ring and take the hits yourself,” can he prove his worth in the far harsher reality of the film industry?

The production team shared, “Episode 9 will serve as an important turning point as Hwang Dong Man finally steps out of his world of imagination and into the real ‘ring.’ Please look forward to seeing how his unusual partnership with Go Hye Jin, made possible by her bold decision, navigates the challenges ahead, as well as Hwang Dong Man’s growth as a director.”

The next episode of “We Are All Trying Here” airs on May 18 at 10:40 p.m. KST!
