BTS Announces Decision To Forgo Grammy Submission

BTS has made an announcement that they will not be submitting any music for the 69th Grammy Awards.

On July 29, all seven members of BTS (RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) simultaneously posted the same message on their respective social media accounts, stating, “We have decided not to submit our music to the Grammys this year.”

The members expressed their convictions, saying, “We hope that music will be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being categorized by region or language,” and added, “We are grateful to ARMY and everyone who are is always with us.”

This decision is interpreted as a backlash against the recent announcement by the Recording Academy, which organizes the Grammy Awards, that it would introduce five new categories, including Best Asian Pop Music Performance. While these categories are intended to evaluate music using Asian languages such as K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop, they have faced widespread criticism from those who argue that this is a pretext to isolate Asian music into a separate category, effectively excluding it from competing in major awards (General Fields) such as Album of the Year and Record of the Year.

The 69th Grammy Awards will take place on February 7, 2027.

TWICE, Stray Kids, And Park Jin Young Invited To Join Grammy Awards’ Recording Academy As Voting Members

The Recording Academy, which is best-known for its annual Grammy Awards, has officially invited TWICE, Stray Kids, and JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin Young to join its ranks!

Last week, the famous American institution revealed that it had extended over 4,000 invitations to “dedicated music creators” and “established music professionals across genres, backgrounds, and disciplines.”

JYP Entertainment has now announced that 18 of its artists—Park Jin Young, the nine members of TWICE, and the eight members of Stray Kids—have been invited to join the Recording Academy as voting members, meaning that they will be eligible to vote for the Grammy Awards.

Meanwhile, JYP Entertainment CEO Jeong Wook and CSO Shin Hyun Kook, who also serves as the CEO of JYP America, have been invited to join as professional members: a type of membership for music executives, managers, publicists, agents, and other team members that work to support music creators.

Formally established in 1957, the Recording Academy held the very first Grammy Awards in 1959. It currently holds the prestigious award ceremony every year to recognize achievements in music, with only its voting members eligible to cast votes and determine which of their peers will be awarded.

Last month, the Recording Academy announced that it would be adding a new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category for the upcoming 2027 Grammy Awards.

Congratulations to TWICE, Stray Kids, and Park Jin Young on their official invitations!

Grammy Awards Adds New Asian Pop Music Category For 2027

Starting next year, the Grammy Awards will be introducing a brand-new Asian pop category.

On June 16 local time, the Recording Academy announced the addition of a new Best Asian Pop Music Performance award for the 2027 Grammy Awards.

According to the Recording Academy, the Best Asian Pop Music Performance category “recognizes artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, including but not limited to K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop, with meaningful use of one ore more Asian languages.”

Best Asian Pop Music Performance is one of five categories that the Grammy Awards is adding next year, along with Best Latin Song, Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, and Best Traditional Folk Album.

The 69th Grammy Awards will take place on February 7, 2027.
