Directed by Kim Yeong Jo of “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth,” “The Great King Munmu” follows the tale of how the small kingdom of Silla overcame the stronger states of Goguryeo, Baekje, and the Tang dynasty of China to unify the Three Kingdoms.

Kim Kang Woo plays Kim Chun Chu, a shrewd strategist with exceptional diplomatic skills and political savvy. As the grandson of the deposed King Jinji, Kim Chun Chu has long faced opposition from the sacred-bone aristocracy. When Silla falls into a desperate crisis after Daeya Fortress is captured by Baekje, he steps into the political arena in earnest.

Kim Chun Chu’s guiding belief is, “Survival in the present is victory in the future.” Rather than simply weathering the immediate crisis, he seeks to secure Silla’s survival on his own terms, gradually expanding his influence through sharp judgment and a bold, risk-taking nature.

Eventually, Kim Chun Chu becomes the first person from the true-bone class to ascend the throne, becoming King Taejong Muyeol, Silla’s 29th king. Looking down at a gathering of soldiers, Yeon Gaesomun exudes the authority of a ruler preparing for war. Meanwhile, Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin (Yang Hyun Min), who stands against Goguryeo, also appears, hinting at the fierce confrontation between the two men.

“Go ahead. Try me,” Yeon Gaesomun says before boldly declaring, “I will tear apart the skies of Tang and extinguish its sun.” His confident smile reflects his overwhelming confidence and his fierce ambition for Goguryeo.

He recalls conversations with Silla’s famed general Kim Yu Sin (Park Sung Woong) and his father, Kim Chun Chu (Kim Kang Woo), the 29th king of Silla. Kim Yu Shin’s question, “Where does your will lead you?” and Kim Chun Chu’s question, “Have you made up your mind?” intensify the deep inner turmoil of Kim Pom Min, both as a man and as a monarch.

The teaser then introduces Yeon Gaesomun (Jang Hyuk), the war god of Goguryeo and a ruthless dictator. In one scene, he exudes a powerful aura as he asks, “Can’t you hear the sound of war?”

“The Great Escape” is officially returning with a brand-new season!

On August 5, CJ ENM announced that “The Great Escape” will return with a new season in the second half of 2026.

“The Great Escape” is an adventure variety show where the cast works together to solve elaborate escape room challenges.

Since premiering on tvN in 2018, the show has aired four seasons through 2021, establishing itself as one of Korea’s signature adventure variety programs. Last year, it continued its legacy with the TVING original “The Great Escape: The Story,” which expanded the show’s scale and storytelling.

The new season will feature Kim Jong Min, Kim Dong Hyun, SUPER JUNIOR’s Shindong, Yoo Byung Jae, Ko Kyung Pyo, and SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan, who joins the cast as its newest member.

Meanwhile, original cast member Kang Ho Dong has chosen to pass the baton to his fellow cast members, cheering them on from the sidelines.
