Jun Ji Hyun Talks About Her Return To The Big Screen With “Colony,” Letting Go Of The Past, And More

Jun Ji Hyun recently sat down with Harper’s BAZAAR Korea for a pictorial and interview.

In the interview, she shared her thoughts on her recent film “Colony,” which marked her return to the big screen after 11 years, as well as her experience portraying the character Kwon Se Jung.

Helmed by “Train to Busan” and “Peninsula” director Yeon Sang Ho, “Colony” tells the story of survivors trapped in a building that has been blockaded due to an unknown virus as those infected evolve into unpredictable forms. Jun Ji Hyun stars as professor Kwon Se Jung, a biotechnologist and the leader of the survivors.

On how she brought out Kwon Se Jung’s human side, she shared, “On the surface, she’s a righteous and strong person who shows leadership within her group. But because she’s experiencing such an extreme situation for the first time herself, I believed it was only natural for her fear to show.”

She continued, “So in every situation she faced, I focused on portraying the layers of emotion that any ordinary person would experience—surprise, confusion, fear, and terror.”

Speaking about the energy she brings to a filming set, Jun Ji Hyun said, “I don’t think a positive atmosphere on set can be created by just one person’s efforts. It’s only when everyone involved brings positive energy that the overall mood truly brightens.” She added, “To help create that atmosphere, I stay fully engaged on every project and spend a lot of time communicating, laughing, and connecting with the director, staff, and fellow actors.”

She added, “Knowing how to take time to care for myself after filming wraps is what I consider ‘professionalism.’”

When asked how she developed her ability to let go of the past, Jun Ji Hyun replied, “It came naturally as I experienced countless situations, met various people, and faced unexpected circumstances while working and going about my daily life.”

She continued, “Even when I become exhausted from living such a busy life, I think I’ve become someone who knows not to get consumed by those emotions.”

She concluded, “I try not to waste my time, but I also make sure never to forget to take time to truly reflect on and care for myself. By continuing to face myself honestly, I’ve reached a point where, even during difficult moments, I don’t fall too deeply into that emotional cave or stay there for too long.”

BTS’s Jungkook Talks About “ARIRANG” World Tour, His Love For The Stage, And More

BTS’ Jungkook recently posed for a photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar Korea.

The shoot was a collaboration with Swiss high-end watchmaker Hublot, for which Jungkook serves as a global brand ambassador.

In the accompanying interview, Jungkook shared his thoughts on the shoot, saying, “I really liked everything about this shoot—the atmosphere, the timing, the pace. I’ve always found pictorial shoots somewhat difficult, and I never really get used to them. But this shoot with Bazaar will remain a fun memory for me.”

Still, it felt like I had briefly stepped into another world.”

He continued, “Right now, I’m staying up at night excitedly thinking about traveling on tour and meeting audiences around the world. I definitely feel most like myself when I’m on stage, hearing the crowd cheer while I dance and sing. When my throat hurts, I’m drenched in sweat, and everything feels chaotic—strangely, that’s when I feel most alive.

When asked about the similarities between himself and Hublot’s artistic vision, he replied, “I think we kind of share a similar artistic style. I’m someone who acts more with my heart than my head, so I’m not exactly sure why, but I feel a strange connection with the brand. Instead of focusing on explaining things logically, both of us seem to focus more on expressing the feeling and atmosphere of a moment.”

Lee Chae Min Dishes On Challenging Himself With “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty,” His Preferred Types Of Roles, And More

Lee Chae Min recently joined Harper’s BAZAAR Korea for a pictorial and interview!

In the interview following his photo shoot, the rising actor shared candid thoughts about his career and acting roles. When asked what kinds of roles he is drawn to, he said, “They fall into two categories. There are projects I want to do because I can deeply relate to them or think they’d be fun, and there are projects I’m not entirely sure about but want to challenge myself with in order to discover a new side of me. In between taking on roles I can relate to, I also occasionally challenge myself with historical dramas or villain roles, which I think has made my filmography a bit diverse.”

When asked if there was a project that had made him nervous, he replied, “’Bon Appétit, Your Majesty’ was one where I clenched my teeth and told myself to just go for it. I was very happy and grateful, but honestly, the thought at the forefront of my mind was ‘Will I really be able to pull this off?’ The keyword ‘tyrant’ worried me. I’m not someone who usually expresses anger openly or raises my voice, so I wasn’t sure if I could handle the role of a high-intensity tyrant. In the beginning, I approached the acting almost like a task I had to carry out, but with the help of those around me and the director, I was able to see it through to the end.”

On how his strong competitive spirit has influenced him, Lee Chae Min remarked, “It has never allowed me to become complacent. There are so many people around me who can influence me. Rather than trying to follow their lives, I think part of my competitiveness comes from drawing motivation from them. Thanks to that, I’ve been able to keep working hard up until now.”

Lee Chae Min’s full pictorial and interview can be found in the May issue of Harper’s BAZAAR Korea.

Kim Go Eun And Kim Jae Won Talk About Their Experience Working Together, What “Yumi’s Cells 3” Means To Them, And More

“Yumi’s Cells 3” stars Kim Go Eun and Kim Jae Won have teamed up with Harper’s BAZAAR Korea for a pictorial and interview!

The two actors showcased natural and lovely chemistry in this photo shoot that seems to capture the fluttering excitement of a spring day.

In the accompanying interview, when asked about his feelings on working with Kim Go Eun for the first time, Kim Jae Won said, “From our first meeting, Kim Go Eun told me it was okay to speak comfortably to her, so once I started using informal speech, we were able to become close quickly. Once we were on set, she created an atmosphere where she would accept everything even if I had 10 things to say, and I was very grateful for that. It was all thanks to her consideration. She never jumped to conclusions and always asked for my opinion. I learned so much from her regarding her attitude toward acting.”

Regarding her experience working with Kim Jae Won, Kim Go Eun replied, “It was my first time meeting a much younger junior as my acting partner. I had inner concerns, wondering, ‘If I joke around like this, will he take it seriously?’ or ‘If I say this, will it come across as a joke?’ When I’m with seniors, I feel much more like a playful little sister, so I even wondered if I should approach him more like a comfortable friend instead. Since I have worked with the director for a long time, both the director and I wanted to make sure Jae Won felt less like a stranger and could settle into the set more easily.”

When asked about his experience playing the role of Shin Soon Rok, Yumi’s final romantic interest, he replied, “At first, it felt like I was in a situation where a precious daughter, raised with abundant love in a large family, brings her boyfriend home to introduce him to everyone. It was as if I were that very boyfriend, with the entire family watching my every move. It was an honor to be part of the final journey of a project that has received so much love. Since Soon Rok is imprinted in people’s minds as a ‘unicorn-like’ younger man, I did feel some pressure, but it was definitely a pleasant kind of pressure.”

Regarding her experience playing the role of Yumi over the course of three seasons, Kim Go Eun expressed her special affection for the project, saying, “Yumi was the beginning of my 30s. It felt like the opening of a second chapter in my life. I loved the very fact that I existed within a charming drama where I could communicate with the cells, and because it was a project with such delicate elements of empathy, I often found myself thinking, ‘This is what our lives are like.’ I liked that it was a drama where we could share thoughts about the emotions one feels while dating—like, ‘Right, they shouldn’t do that. That’s so annoying.’”

She continued, “This third season features thoughts that are much closer to the daily life of a woman in her mid-to-late 30s. It contains subtleties that are different from one’s early-to-mid 30s. As I grew older alongside Yumi, it became an even more enjoyable experience to portray the character. It is rare in Korea to carry a single drama through multiple seasons, so it was a very special experience, and I feel like I can now bring the grand finale to a close.”

Kim Go Eun and Kim Jae Won’s full pictorial and interview can be found in the May issue of Harper’s BAZAAR Korea.

Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, “Yumi’s Cells” tells the story of an ordinary office worker named Yumi (Kim Go Eun)—from the point of view of the many brain cells in her head controlling her every thought, feeling, and action. In Season 3, Kim Jae Won plays Yumi’s new love interest Soon Rok, an editorial PD at Julie Publishing. Episode 3 and 4 of “Yumi’s Cells 3” will be unveiled on April 20.
