Jung Woo Sung, Jung Sung Il, And Wi Ha Joon Confirmed To Star In New Action Historical Film

A hard-boiled action historical film is officially on the way!

The production team of the upcoming film “Sal Saeng Bu” (literal title) officially confirmed the movie’s production and announced the casting of Jung Woo Sung, Jung Sung Il, and Wi Ha Joon. Although Bae Sung Woo was previously reported to be part of the lineup, his name was absent from the official press release.

“Sal Saeng Bu” refers to a “kill list” document written by Han Myeong Hoe during the Gyeyu Purge, the coup led by Grand Prince Suyang. In order to eliminate political rivals, Han Myeong Hoe categorized officials based on their past actions and the possibility of recruiting them, determining who would live and who would die.

Based on the webtoon of the same name, “Sal Saeng Bu” is a hard-boiled action historical film that follows a girl named Lee Hwa, who loses everything during the Gyeyu Purge and sets out on a path of revenge to kill Han Myeong Hoe, the strategist who created the “kill list.”

Jung Woo Sung will star as the ruthless strategist Han Myeong Hoe, who orchestrates the bloody purge and personally drafts the kill list. Jung Sung Il will play Ban Seok, a member of the secret organization Hwajeopmong, which was formed to assassinate Han Myeong Hoe and the officials involved in the rebellion. Meanwhile, Wi Ha Joon will make a special appearance as Prince Suyang, a fiercely ambitious royal convinced that he is destined to claim the throne.

Meanwhile, casting is currently underway for Lee Hwa—the young woman who chooses the path of a night demon in pursuit of revenge against Han Myeong Hoe—as well as the five female members of the assassin group Hwajeopmong.

The film will be directed by Kim Hong Sun, known for “Project Wolf Hunting” and Season 3 of “Gangs of London.”

“The Kill List” is currently in pre-production with the goal of beginning filming within the year after finalizing the remaining cast lineup in the first half of 2026.

Stay tuned for more updates on the film!

Park Hae Soo And Lee Hee Joon Reunite After 30 Years In “The Scarecrow”

“The Scarecrow” has shared new stills ahead of its upcoming episode!

“The Scarecrow” follows a detective investigating a series of murders who is forced into an unlikely partnership with a man he despises. Set between 1988 and 2019, the suspenseful story tracks two men bound by misfortune and an uneasy alliance of hatred as they chase the truth across 30 years.

Spoilers

Previously in the drama, Kang Tae Joo (Park Hae Soo) learned through Park Dae Ho (Ryu Hae Jun) that Cha Si Young (Lee Hee Joon) and other detectives had concealed the body of Yoon Hye Jin (Lee Ah Rin). While pursuing the whereabouts of the body, Kang Tae Joo ended up being buried alive by Cha Si Young at the end of the previous episode. In addition, despite Seo Ji Won (Kwak Sun Young)’s best efforts, Im Seok Man (Baek Seung Hwan) was sentenced to life imprisonment at the final trial of the 7th case. In the end, the truth was revealed by Lee Yong Woo (Jung Moon Sung), the real culprit behind the serial murder cases who got caught after 30 years.

The released stills hint at new developments in the story. The first image depicts a reunion between Kang Tae Joo and Cha Si Young in the present day. Cha Si Young is seen wearing a golden badge indicating that he is a member of the National Assembly. He appears highly alert upon hearing that the real serial murder culprit has been caught. Attention is focused on who will emerge as the winner in this 30-year-long battle over the truth.

Another set of photos draws attention with the appearance of a familiar face, Cha Young Beom (Song Geon Hee). Cha Young Beom is an intern reporter investigating the serial murder case, which has resurfaced following the confession of the real culprit. Expectations are high for Song Geon Hee’s dual role, from Lee Ki Beom, who died 30 years ago from the aftereffects of torture after being framed, to a young reporter chasing the truth.

The production team stated, “From Episode 11 onward, the present day of 2019 will serve as the backdrop, and the hidden truths of the incidents from 30 years ago will resurface again.” They added, “The changes in relationships between characters who meet again after a long time will also be an important point to watch.”

The next episode of “The Scarecrow” will air on May 25 at 10 p.m. KST.

Park Hae Soo Grabs Lee Hee Joon By The Collar In Explosive Confrontation In “The Scarecrow”

Spoilers

Previously in the drama, the truth behind Lee Ki Beom (Song Geon Hee’s) death after he was cleared of false accusations, as well as the identity of serial killer Lee Yong Woo, which had been hidden for 30 years, were revealed. While Lim Seok Man (Baek Seung Hwan), who was newly identified as a suspect, was arrested, the recently released Lee Ki Beom died on his way home. The cause of death was revealed to be organ damage and sepsis resulting from assault and torture. Moreover, the revelation that Lee Ki Beom already knew the true identity of his older brother Lee Ki Hwan (Jung Moon Sung) further heightened the tension.

In the newly released photos, Kang Tae Joo (Park Hae Soo) grabs Cha Si Young (Lee Hee Joon) by the collar and glares at him with eyes full of rage. Cha Si Young, however, stares back at Kang Tae Joo without wavering, creating a tense atmosphere.

In a previously released preview for the upcoming episode, Kang Tae Joo was seen crying out in anger, saying, “Are you even human? How could you pin those kinds of charges on me?” This raises curiosity about where the relationship between the two men—which had been going back and forth between cooperation and betrayal—is headed.

More stills show Jang Myung Do (Jeon Jae Hong) and Do Hyung Gu (Kim Eun Woo) conducting an on-site investigation for the seventh case. The photo in which they force the physically weakened Lim Seok Man to climb over the victim’s wall hints at the detectives’ excessive investigation methods. Will Lim Seok Man become another scapegoat, just like Lee Ki Beom?

The production team stated, “In Episode 8 of ‘The Scarecrow,’ the conflict between Kang Tae Joo and Cha Si Young spirals out of control following Lee Ki Beom’s death,” adding, “The investigation surrounding the new suspect Lim Seok Man will also unfold in an unexpected direction.”

Park Hae Soo And Lee Hee Joon Pursue Different Suspects In The Same Serial Murder Case In “The Scarecrow”

“The Scarecrow” has unveiled new stills ahead of its upcoming episode!

“The Scarecrow” follows a detective investigating a series of murders who is forced into an unlikely partnership with a man he despises. Set between 1988 and 2019, the suspenseful story tracks two men bound by misfortune and an uneasy alliance of hatred as they chase the truth across 30 years.

Spoilers

In the previous episode, Kang Tae Joo (Park Hae Soo) suspected both brothers, Lee Ki Beom (Song Geon Hee) and Lee Ki Hwan (Jung Moon Sung), after Park Ae Sook’s (Hwang Eun Ho) handbag was found at a bookstore.

However, it was later revealed that Lee Ki Beom, who had been identified as the main suspect, gave a false confession after being confined, assaulted, and threatened.

Kang Tae Joo then sought out Im Seok Man (Baek Seung Hwan), who had witnessed the detectives’ illegal arrest, and asked him to testify. Just as there was brief hope that Lee Ki Beom might clear his name, Kang Tae Joo became confused after realizing that Kang Soon Young’s (Seo Ji Hye) eyewitness account of the suspect, along with radioactive isotope test results, both matched Im Seok Man.

The newly released stills preview the diverging fates of longtime neighborhood friends Lee Ki Beom and Im Seok Man, who has emerged as a second suspect.

In a police interview room, Kang Tae Joo and Im Seok Man sit facing each other, creating a tense atmosphere. Kang Tae Joo’s eyes appear sharp, as if he is trying to see through the other man, while Im Seok Man’s expression shows a sense of injustice and frustration.

In more stills, Lee Ki Beom is seen wearing a prison uniform and handcuffs. Escorted by correctional officers as he steps out of a transport vehicle, he arrives at a prosecutor’s office interview room where Cha Si Young (Lee Hee Joon) is waiting.

5 Reasons Why K-Drama “The Scarecrow” Is The Definitive Answer To Bong Joon Ho’s “Memories Of Murder”

If you’re drawn to dark, realistic crime stories, the K-drama “Beyond Evil” and the Korean movie “Memories of Murder” have probably stayed with you. Directed by Bong Joon Ho and led by Song Kang Ho, the film was inspired by real-life crimes of an unsolved serial killer case and famously left audiences with a deeply unsettling, unresolved ending. Fast-forward to 2026, and the K-drama “The Scarecrow” revisits the same haunting case, but this time it approaches the story with hindsight and a very different emotional lens. Here’s why this K-drama stands out.

1. A cold case with a “solved” perspective

The Scarecrow

“The Scarecrow” is set in a world where the truth has already surfaced. The story is shaped by the 2019 breakthrough that finally identified the killer. Through a non-linear narrative, we follow an older Kang Tae Joo (Park Hae Soo) as he revisits the case and comes face-to-face with the man responsible. Moving from the 1980s to 2019, the show shifts its focus from simply uncovering the killer to examining how the system failed for so long and what closure really looks like after decades of uncertainty.

2. The detective vs. the prosecutor

The Scarecrow

At the heart of the drama is a tense and emotionally charged relationship. Kang Tae Joo (Park Hae Soo), now a retired profiler, is unexpectedly pulled back into the investigation. Cut to the ’80s, circumstances in Seoul throw him back to his hometown, where his past resurfaces when he’s forced to work again with prosecutor Cha Si Young (Lee Hee Joon), someone tied to a difficult chapter in his life. Their shared history adds weight to every interaction, especially as the imprisoned killer insists that Tae Joo is the only one who can uncover the “real truth.” This dynamic makes the story as much about personal reckoning as it is about solving a crime.

3. The “scarecrow” motif

The Scarecrow

Director Park Joon Woo, known for the K-drama “Taxi Driver,” takes a thoughtful and symbolic approach here. Instead of focusing purely on the identity of the killer, the series digs into the investigative failures of the past. The series title comes from a dark, real-life tactic used by police in the 1980s: they actually placed scarecrows in the fields as “psychological warnings” to try and scare the killer away. In the drama, the scarecrow becomes a chilling marker for the crime scenes and a symbol of an investigation that remained “frozen” and stuck for decades.

4. Voice of victims

The Scarecrow

One of the show’s strongest aspects is its commitment to telling the story from the perspective of those affected. Through journalist Seo Ji Won (Kwak Sun Young), we see how fear spread across the town of Gangseong and how deeply the crimes impacted everyday lives. She challenges authority, questions rushed conclusions, and keeps the focus on accountability.

5. Emotional weight of the ensemble

The Scarecrow

With more time to explore its characters, the show also builds a layered and emotionally rich world. Seo Ji Hye plays Tae Joo’s younger sister Kang Sun Young, a school teacher whose relationship with Lee Ki Beom (Song Geon Hee) adds a personal conflict to the story. At the same time, the relationship between the Lee brothers—Lee Ki Hwan (Jung Moon Sung), a quiet bookstore owner, and Lee Ki Beom—brings a sense of immediacy and tension.

Ultimately, “The Scarecrow” serves as the “closing argument” to a trial that lasted 33 years. It is a crime procedural thriller but also a re-telling of the infamous serial killer, but through the lens of victims, survivors, the wrongfully accused, and the long, arduous road to justice. For viewers who have long been haunted by that final, silent gaze of Song Kang Ho in Bong Joon Ho’s film, this 12-episode drama finally allows viewers to look back at the tragedy through a new perspective.

Park Hae Soo Proposes A Deal That Lee Hee Joon Can’t Refuse In “The Scarecrow”

“The Scarecrow” has unveiled new stills from its upcoming episode!

“The Scarecrow” follows a detective investigating a series of murders who is forced into an unlikely partnership with a man he despises. Set between 1988 and 2019, the suspenseful story tracks two men bound by misfortune and an uneasy alliance of hatred as they chase the truth across 30 years.

Spoilers

Previously, Kang Tae Joo (Park Hae Soo) launched a full-scale investigation into the Gangseong serial murder case. From meeting survivor Park Ae Sook (Hwang Eun Ho) to a sting operation using a female police officer as bait, he carried out an around-the-clock effort.

However, Cha Si Young (Lee Hee Joon) diverted investigative manpower by sending detectives to handle riot control. Seo Ji Won (Kwak Sun Young), who was assigned to the sting operation, was knocked unconscious in a surprise attack by the real culprit. In addition, Kang Tae Joo became involved in an assault case with Jeon Kyung Ho (Kang Jung Woo), a fellow teacher of his younger sister Kang Soon Young (Seo Ji Hye) and a nephew of the county governor. As a result, Cha Si Young regained control of the investigation.

Amid the tense standoff between Kang Tae Joo and Cha Si Young, the investigation into the Gangseong serial murder case continues to intensify. In a previous teaser, Cha Si Young ordered, “Detective Kang Tae Joo will be removed from all investigations effective today.” Still, Kang Tae Joo shows no sign of backing down as he confronts him.

As the serial killer continues his brutal crimes and the number of victims continues to rise, Kang Tae Joo, previously removed from all investigations, returns to catch the culprit.

The production team said, “Please stay tuned to see what Kang Tae Joo is willing to risk to catch the real culprit and how Cha Si Young responds to his proposal. The changing relationship between the two men, who have been hostile until now, will be a key point of episode 3.”
