Ryu Seung Ryong Is A Far Cry From His Former Baseball Glory In “Portrait of a Family”

Upcoming film “Portrait of a Family” has unveiled a glimpse of Ryu Seung Ryong’s bittersweet life after falling from his former glory.

“Portrait of a Family” is a family chronicle that follows top star couple Jung Gu (Ryu Seung Ryong) and Nam Mi (Ha Ji Won). After their marriage falls apart due to the sudden appearance of Jung Gu’s daughter Dong Ju (Kim Si Ah), the film picks up eight years later, depicting the couple’s desperate pursuit of the truth to save Dong Ju after she becomes embroiled in a shocking incident.

The new stills capture Jung Gu, who once enjoyed a glamorous life as one of Korea’s top baseball hitters before his life came crashing down in an instant.

The first still shows Jung Gu as he wakes up in the living room wearing nothing but his underwear. Rising with a disheveled appearance in the messy room, he cuts a rather pitiful figure. The empty soju bottles on the table hint at how far he has fallen from his glamorous days as one of Korea’s top baseball hitters, now living a humble and difficult life.

Another still shows Jung Gu casually eating pizza with his hands at a family restaurant, offering a glimpse of his much more down-to-earth side. Dressed in a plain gray long-sleeved shirt with an unkempt hairstyle, he looks both familiar and approachable while highlighting the modest circumstances he has been forced to live in.

Finally, a scene of Jung Gu crouching on a playground slide while talking to someone on the phone captures his harsh reality as he wanders around looking for work even as everyone else goes about their busy daily lives.

Ryu Seung Ryong And Ha Ji Won’s Lives Take A Drastic Turn After The Arrival Of His Daughter In “Portrait Of A Family”

The upcoming film “Portrait of a Family” has unveiled new character posters!

The newly released character posters feature characters who each carry their own wounds and stories. Jung Gu, once a successful baseball player whose relationship with Nam Mi fell apart following Dong Ju’s arrival, stares into the distance on a rain-soaked alley. The caption, “No matter what happens, I’ll protect you,” paired with his determined expression, raises curiosity about what choices he will make for Dong Ju.

Nam Mi, who once enjoyed a glamorous life as a top star, has undergone a complete transformation following the collapse of her marriage. With her disheveled hair and vacant gaze, she gives off a fragile and troubled air. Surrounded by her classmates, Dong Ju pleads her innocence, saying, “No, it wasn’t me. It really wasn’t.” Her desperate appearance raises further questions about what truly happened in the incident that unfolds eight years later.

Jung Gu’s family members also step up to support him in their own ways. His mother Gi Sik (Kim Hae Sook) expresses her deep love for her family, saying, “That’s the thing about family—they make you willing to risk everything.”

His older sister Ji Sook (Kim Sun Young) comforts Jung Gu with, “Don’t let this break you. That’s what family is there for,” while his brother-in-law Sung Myung (Kim Young Min) reassures him, “Don’t worry. We’ll find [it/them], no matter what,” becoming a steadfast ally to Jung Gu and Dong Ju.

Ryu Seung Ryong Is A Former Baseball Star Who Will Risk Everything For His Daughter In “Portrait Of A Family”

The upcoming film “Portrait of a Family” has unveiled new stills of Ryu Seung Ryong!

Ryu Seung Ryong stars as Jung Gu, a former baseball player who will stop at nothing to protect his daughter. Once a celebrated athlete, Jung Gu’s life falls apart after Dong Ju unexpectedly enters his life. Though rough around the edges, he reveals a much softer side whenever he’s with his daughter.

Through Jung Gu, who struggles to express his love but cares for his daughter more deeply than anyone else, Ryu Seung Ryong is set to portray a new kind of paternal devotion.

To bring the character to life, Ryu Seung Ryong carefully managed his weight and diet to portray Jung Gu from his 20s through his early-to-mid 40s. He also underwent pitching and batting training to convincingly play a former baseball player, while even sporting extensive tattoo makeup to complete the transformation.

The newly released stills highlight Jung Gu’s contrasting past and present. In one, he is in a baseball uniform at the plate, his intense gaze hinting at his days as one of the sport’s top players.

Another still captures Jung Gu frozen in shock after seemingly witnessing a devastating incident. The fear and desperation in his eyes vividly convey the lengths he’ll go to in order to protect his daughter.

Director Lee Ji Won praised the actor, saying, “Ryu Seung Ryong has the fierce eyes and energy of a wild beast, but when he’s with someone he loves, he reveals a surprisingly vulnerable side. He was the actor who could portray Jung Gu most convincingly.”
