Jang Dong Ju’s Agency Releases Statement Regarding His Sudden Retirement Announcement

Actor Jang Dong Ju’s agency has released an official statement regarding his retirement announcement.

Previously on May 15, Jang Dong Ju uploaded a post on his personal social media account announcing his retirement from acting.

Afterward, the actor held a live broadcast where he apologized for the series of events and shared an update on his situation. He confessed that, with help from people around him, he had managed to settle more than 3 billion won (approximately $1,994,000) out of approximately 4 billion won (approximately $2,659,000) in debt but still had around 700 million (approximately $465,400) to 800 million won (approximately $531,900) remaining.

He also expressed that he felt unable to continue a normal acting career due to ongoing debt collection pressure. However, he stated that he would repay the debt through his own efforts rather than using legal relief procedures such as bankruptcy or rehabilitation programs.

On May 17, Jang Dong Ju’s agency Management W released an official statement clarifying that Jang Dong Ju’s retirement announcement was a decision made solely by the actor himself without any prior discussion or consultation with the agency.

Read the agency’s full statement below:

Hello, this is Management W.

First, we would like to apologize to fans who cherish and support our artist Jang Dong Ju as well as to those in the pop culture and arts industry for causing concern with such sudden news.

The announcement of actor Jang Dong Ju’s retirement, which has recently circulated through media and social media, was a matter decided unilaterally by the actor himself without any prior discussion or consultation with our agency.

Our agency did not receive any prior notice regarding this matter and only became aware of the situation after the announcement was made.

This act constitutes highly irresponsible behavior that abandons the responsibility and trust expected of an actor currently under contract. We would like to clarify that the responsibility for the resulting confusion and damages lies entirely with the actor himself.

Our agency is doing its utmost to resolve the situation with the relevant parties and partners who have been affected by the actor’s unilateral decision, and we are responding to this matter with the utmost seriousness.

Furthermore, we have judged that the relationship of trust with actor Jang Dong Ju has effectively reached an irrecoverable state, and we plan to carefully review all matters including whether to maintain the exclusive contract in the future.

We once again deeply apologize to fans and all related parties for the concern caused.

Thank you.

Last year, Jang Dong Ju caused concern after leaving behind only a brief apology statement before cutting off contact. Later, in January of this year, he revealed that he had been threatened by hackers and suffered financial losses amounting to tens of billions of won.

Born in 1994, Jang Dong Ju made his acting debut with the KBS drama “School 2017” and recently appeared in the drama “No Tail to Tell.” Earlier on May 1, the actor shared news that he was joining the cast of the new film “OUR NEXT” (literal title), but two weeks later, he made a sudden retirement announcement, causing concern.

Lee Yi Kyung’s Agency Releases Statement Regarding Recent Tax Penalty Imposed On His One-Man Agency

Lee Yi Kyung’s agency has issued an official statement regarding the results of a tax audit of his one-man agency.

Recently, an irregular tax audit was conducted by the National Tax Service on Lee Yi Kyung’s one-man agency. Tax authorities determined that there was a possibility of tax avoidance, as the corporation established by Lee Yi Kyung had processed a portion of his personal income as corporate revenue, thereby benefiting from the lower maximum corporate tax rate compared to the personal income tax rate.

On May 13, Lee Yi Kyung’s agency SANGYOUNG ENT released an official statement and apologized for causing concern to his fans.

Read the full statement below:

Hello, this is SANGYOUNG ENT.

We would like to address the results of the tax audit concerning our agency’s actor Lee Yi Kyung.

First, we deeply apologize for causing concern to many people due to this matter.

Since his debut, Lee Yi Kyung has always complied with tax laws and faithfully fulfilled his tax obligations. Throughout the recent tax audit process, he diligently cooperated with the investigation by transparently submitting all relevant materials.

The results of this tax audit arose from a difference in the interpretation of tax laws between the tax authorities and our agency regarding the criteria for expense reporting during the operation of our corporation. We would like to clearly state that there was absolutely no intentional omission of income or tax evasion through dishonest means.

Our agency respects the findings of the National Tax Service, and we will pay the imposed penalty tax without delay in accordance with the relevant procedures.

Once again, we sincerely apologize for causing concern to many, and we will more thoroughly examine our tax and accounting management systems to ensure that similar issues do not occur in the future. We will continue to abide by the law and principles, and faithfully fulfill our tax obligations.

Recently, the entertainment industry has been embroiled in controversy as several actors were found to have had additional taxes imposed due to issues in the tax management process involving their one-man corporations.

While one-man agencies are a common method used by celebrities to manage their earnings and expenses in a corporate format, the ongoing controversies led the Korea Management Federation to urge institutional improvements regarding celebrities’ one-man corporations and tax issues last February.

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo’s Legal Representative Releases Statement Addressing Family-Related Controversy

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo’s legal representative has issued an official statement addressing recent speculation surrounding a family-related controversy.

On April 16, reports emerged that the older brother of a well-known girl group member, identified as Mr. A, had been arrested on charges of sexually molesting a female broadcast jockey (BJ). As speculation grew that the individual in question was Jisoo’s older brother, additional allegations surfaced. A person identifying herself as Mr. A’s wife claimed on social media that she had experienced domestic violence during their marriage.

In response, on April 20, attorney Eun Hyun Ho of Kim & Chang, the legal representative for Jisoo’s agency BLISSOO, released an official statement clarifying that both the artist and the company are not connected to the matter.

This is attorney Eun Hyun Ho of Kim & Chang, legal representative for BLISSOO.

We express our deep regret over the indiscriminate spread of content that associates the artist and BLISSOO with a family-related matter, as well as the circulation of false information that damages the artist’s reputation through certain media reports, online communities, and social media.

First, the matter currently being raised is entirely unrelated to the artist and BLISSOO. Much of the information circulating online consists of unverified speculation or clearly false claims.

The artist began her trainee life at a young age and has lived independently for many years, apart from her family. As such, she is not in a position to be aware of or involved in the private matters of the individual in question.

Additionally, during the preparatory stages of establishing BLISSOO, the artist did receive limited advice and assistance from family members in the form of relaying communications during discussions with relevant parties. However, at no point—then or now—have family members received compensation from BLISSOO or participated in any management or decision-making processes. Since then, the company has been operated entirely independently, without any involvement from family members.

In particular, claims circulating in some media outlets and online stating that “the individual co-founded the company with the artist” or that “the individual serves as part of BLISSOO’s management or as its CEO” are entirely false. We clearly state that the individual has no legal or managerial ties to BLISSOO.

Furthermore, neither BLISSOO nor the artist has provided any financial or legal support to the individual, nor do they have any plans to do so in the future. The artist also has no communication or involvement with the individual regarding this matter.

Despite this, the continued dissemination of false information, as well as the use of the artist’s name, likeness, or image in connection with unrelated matters, constitutes a clear violation of rights and defamation.

Accordingly, our legal team strongly warns that we will take all available civil and criminal legal action without delay against the following acts:

1. The creation and distribution of content containing false information and defamatory claims
2. The use of the artist’s name, likeness, or image in unrelated matters
3. The publication or creation of content based on unverified or speculative information

In particular, we make it clear that we will respond firmly—without leniency or settlement—to those who repeatedly or maliciously create and disseminate such content.
