NewJeans Sued For Alleged Plagiarism + ADOR Responds

ADOR has officially commented on NewJeans being hit with a lawsuit for alleged plagiarism.

On May 8 local time, Billboard reported that four songwriters—Audrey Armacost, Aidan Rodriguez, Adam Gokcebay, and Michael Campanelli—had sued the NewJeans members, their agency ADOR, and its parent company HYBE over purported similarities between NewJeans’ 2024 hit “How Sweet” and a demo submitted during the songwriting process.

According to Billboard, Audrey Armacost “was sent an instrumental track by her publisher in January 2024 and was invited to submit topline lyrics and melody for consideration by NewJeans.” The four songwriters claim that they sent a demo written and recorded over that instrumental, titled “One of a Kind,” to NewJeans, but were told that it had not been selected. However, when “How Sweet” was released four months later, they allegedly noticed similarities between the song and their demo.

The songwriters claim in their lawsuit that the first verse of “How Sweet” is “quantitatively and qualitatively similar” to the first verse of their demo, adding, “Both works are in 4/4 meter and the key of B flat minor. And both works contain a topline that includes an approximately eight-bar, 31-note melodic sequence consisting of four series.”

On May 9 KST, ADOR officially responded by stating, “Upon checking with BANA (Beasts And Natives Alike), who were responsible for composing and producing this song, their position is that there was no plagiarism involved. ADOR and the [NewJeans] members plan to respond to the lawsuit in accordance with BANA’s stance [on the allegations].”

Court Rules In Favor Of FANTASY BOYS Members And BAE173’s Doha For Contract Suspension + Agency Responds

The court has ruled in favor of the six FANTASY BOYS members and BAE173’s Doha who filed injunctions to suspend contracts with their agency PocketDol Studio.

Back in November 2025, BAE173’s Doha along with FANTASY BOYS’ Kang Minseo, Lee Hanbin, Hikaru, Hong Sungmin, Kim Gyurae, and Kaedan filed lawsuits against PocketDol Studio seeking confirmation of the non-existence of their exclusive contracts and injunctions to suspend their validity.

On April 16, the court ruled to grant the injunctions to suspend the exclusive contracts of the six FANTASY BOYS members. While the court acknowledged that the agency had provided statements regarding payment for the first and second quarters of 2025, it identified the lack of specificity in income details and the failure to attach supporting documents as the primary causes for the breakdown of trust.

Following the court ruling, FANTASY BOYS’ agencies PocketDol Studio and Phunky Studio announced their intention to immediately appeal the decision, stating, “The practical realities of entertainment management and the contract fulfillment process were not sufficiently considered,” and added that the judgment “focused only on certain procedural requirements.”

It was additionally revealed on April 21 that the court also granted the injunction filed by Doha against PocketDol Studio.

Regarding the decision, Doha took to his Instagram to share the following message:

Hello, this is Na Gyu Min.

Thank you for waiting for such a long time without a word.
And I apologize for reaching out so late.

As this was a period of time that held great significance for me, I have been feeling a mix of many emotions lately.

Through the recent court decision, I have been able to move past the situation that had brought everything to a standstill.
Now, I intend to move forward once again.

I will work to show you what I have been preparing as soon as possible.

I will also do my best to greet you from my rightful place once again.

Thank you.

“Signal” Season 2 Reportedly Removed From tvN’s Summer Programming + tvN Responds

Season 2 of “Signal” has reportedly been removed from tvN’s summer programming.

On April 17, Korean news outlet OSEN reported that “The Second Signal,” the long-awaited second season of the hit 2016 drama “Signal,” had been pulled from its summer broadcast slot and would no longer be premiering in June as originally scheduled.

OSEN also reported that tvN had decided to air Apple TV+’s “Pachinko” instead of “The Second Signal.”

Later that morning, tvN responded to the reports by stating, “Nothing has yet been decided regarding the broadcasting of ‘The Second Signal.’”

The network also stated, “While it’s true that ‘Pachinko’ has been confirmed to air on tvN, the exact dates and time slot have not yet been decided.”

In December of last year, “The Second Signal” star Cho Jin Woong came under fire after he was revealed to have a juvenile criminal record from his school days. Disclosures also surfaced about incidents from his adulthood, including an assault-related dispute and a drunk driving record. Cho Jin Woong ultimately acknowledged responsibility and announced his retirement, leaving the future of “The Second Signal,” which had already completed filming in August, uncertain.

According to OSEN’s unconfirmed report, “The Second Signal” has not been definitively canceled. Instead, tvN is currently in the process of taking more time to consider its broadcast plans for the drama. As the series was originally intended to air this year to commemorate tvN’s 20th anniversary, the network is said to be discussing the possibility of a premiere sometime before the end of 2026.
