Kim Hyun Joo Is Torn Between Hope And Unease When Her Missing Son Returns After 9 Years In “Paradise Lost”
Director Yeon Sang Ho’s new film “Paradise Lost” has unveiled new stills of Kim Hyun Joo in character!
“Paradise Lost” is a thriller that follows Sun Woo (Bae Hyeon Seong), a son who returns home after being missing for nine years. While he was gone, his mother So Young (Kim Hyun Joo) had been soothing her pain by interacting with a childhood version of her son through an artificial intelligence (AI) program. However, she begins to feel uneasy around the “new” Sun Woo, leading to an uncomfortable cohabitation between mother and son.
Kim Hyun Joo plays Ryu So Young, a mother who lost her son and must navigate a whirlwind of grief and confusion.
“Paradise Lost” marks Kim Hyun Joo’s latest collaboration with director Yeon Sang Ho, following “Hellbound,” “Jung_E,” and “The Bequeathed.” She has become one of the first actors Yeon Sang Ho thinks of when developing a new project, thanks to her ability to capture the essence of her characters and bring authenticity to every performance, even within the distinctive and ever-changing worlds of his films and series.
For “Paradise Lost,” Yeon Sang Ho said that Kim Hyun Joo was the only actress he had in mind for the role of Ryu So Young from the very beginning. Describing it as “an extremely difficult role in which too strong a performance can feel artificial, while holding back too much can make the emotions difficult for the audience to pick up on,” he explained, “I wanted to entrust this role to the most trustworthy actress I have worked with throughout my filmmaking career.”
Ryu So Young has spent the past nine years coping with the loss of her son by interacting with a younger version of him through the AI program “Children of Paradise.” When her son Ryu Sun Woo, whom she believed to be dead, miraculously returns alive one day, she is overwhelmed by confusion and anxiety as she encounters a presence completely different from the innocent boy she remembers.
Reflecting on So Young’s emotions at that moment, Kim Hyun Joo said, “Because it was a reality that was difficult to believe, the first thing she felt was the unfamiliarity of having a stranger man appear in front of her.” Through her signature depth and emotional nuance, Kim Hyun Joo brings to life a deeply complex character who is unable to find a moment of stability. Yeon Sang Ho praised her performance, saying, “She created a character who is much easier for the audience to understand than I had expected, while also guiding them through Ryu So Young’s complicated emotions in a way that feels accessible.”
The newly released stills capture So Young’s emotional turmoil through contrasting moods. In the first still, she stands in a doorway and looks inside with a gaze filled with worry and confusion, conveying her anguish as she faces the reality of a son who is different from the one in her memories.
In the second still, she sits in a dark car with a determined expression, simultaneously revealing So Young’s inner strength and anxiety as she struggles to keep herself from falling apart.

Watch: ATEEZ’s San Returns To “Running Man” For “Duke Of The North”-Themed Episode In Fun Preview
Get ready for ATEEZ’s San to star in a “Duke of the North”-themed episode of “Running Man”!
On September 6, the popular SBS variety show aired a sneak peek of its next episode, which will feature San and actress Han Ji Eun as guests.
In keeping with the theme of the “Duke of the North,” San’s famous nickname, the preview starts by introducing the three “dukes” of the “Running Man” kingdom. After HaHa and Yang Se Chan appear dressed up as Northern dukes, San makes a grand entrance as HaHa worries, “Oh no, the real deal is here. What do I do?”
Playing into his role, San dramatically recites a romantic line befitting of a male lead in a fantasy romance manhwa. He then shows off his viral choreography from ATEEZ’s latest hit “BAD” as Ji Suk Jin excitedly exclaims, “That’s it! That’s the [famous] facial expression!”
Later, Han Ji Eun joins San in dancing to “BAD” as the “Running Man” cast praises them from the sidelines. But while the cast members compliment Han Ji Eun for looking pretty with her new short hair, they are merciless when it comes to teasing her about her Italian language skills.
Next, San playfully calls out HaHa for using satoori (regional dialect) in order to imitate him. “Don’t you usually not use satoori?” San asks with a laugh, to which HaHa insists, “No, that’s not true, I do.” San jokingly responds, “His satoori is kind of counterfeit!”
The preview ends with a glimpse of the guests and cast members throwing themselves into the show’s games.
San and Han Ji Eun’s episode of “Running Man” will air on September 13 at 6:10 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out the new preview below!

Kwak Si Yang Returns Behind Bars In “Flex X Cop 2”
SBS’s upcoming drama “Flex x Cop 2” has unveiled new stills featuring Kwak Si Yang’s return in a special appearance!
In “Flex x Cop 2,” Ahn Bo Hyun reprises his starring role as Jin Yi Soo, a third-generation chaebol heir turned detective who uses his wealth and connections like cheat codes whenever an investigation reaches a dead end, while Jung Eun Chae plays veteran detective Joo Hye Ra, Jin Yi Soo’s new partner.
Kwak Si Yang appeared in Season 1 as Jin Seung Joo, the half-brother of Jin Yi Soo. Jin Seung Joo was a capable ally who stepped forward to resolve problems whenever Jin Yi Soo faced a crisis. However, Jin Seung Joo was later revealed to be the ultimate villain who drove Jin Yi Soo’s parents to their deaths.
In the newly released stills, Jin Seung Joo appears in a prison visitation room. Wearing a prison uniform, Jin Seung Joo looks noticeably haggard. His appearance gives off a starkly different atmosphere from his previous polished image while leading Hansu Group.
In another still, Jin Seung Joo faces someone with a cold, hardened expression, raising questions about who he is meeting.

Watch: RESCENE Returns To “The Manager” As Full Group In New Preview
Less than a month after their last appearance on the show, RESCENE is returning to MBC’s “The Manager” as a full group!
In a newly released preview for next week’s episode of the popular reality show, all five members of RESCENE arrive at the studio as guests.
Notably, the show’s panelists point out that this is the first episode of “The Manager” to have only one guest, making it a “RESCENE special.”
Amidst glimpses of the girl group’s chaotic dorm life, RESCENE’s manager shares, “Because their dorm has gotten so much bigger, even if they call another member’s name from their room, they say they can’t hear it. I thought that now, they might not be as glued to one another as they were before, but they still stick to each other like lovebugs.”
That close physical proximity continues at work, with the RESCENE members crowding together on one sofa in their dressing room at “Music Core”—even though, as a panelist points out, there are plenty of seats in the room.
After enjoying hearty meals of gukbap (Korean soup and rice) before their performance, RESCENE gifts their fans with meal coupons to express their gratitude.
Later, the panelists ask RESCENE if they can share any hints about their upcoming plans, and Woni intriguingly declares, “This is our first time revealing this.”
Finally, the preview ends with footage of the RESCENE members tearfully opening up about their past struggles and expressing their determination not to forget their initial mindset.
RESCENE’s episode of “The Manager” will air on August 8 at 11 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out the new preview below!
