Kim Hyun Joo And Lee Moo Saeng Join Forces As Fake Married Couple To Take On Jin Sun Kyu In “100 Days Of Deception”

The upcoming drama “100 Days of Deception” has unveiled new stills of Kim Hyun Joo, Lee Moo Saeng, and Jin Sun Kyu!

Helmed by director Yoo In Shik of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and the “Dr. Romantic” series, “100 Days of Deception” is a period spy romance set over 100 days during the Japanese occupation of Korea.

The drama will follow the story of Lee Ga Kyeong (Kim You Jung), the top pickpocket in Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul), who becomes an undercover spy for the independence movement and infiltrates the Japanese Government-General of Korea. There, she winds up becoming entangled with interpreter Kim Tae Woong (GOT7’s Park Jinyoung), who also goes by the name Sato Hideo and is the adopted son of the Inspector-General of Korea, the second-highest-ranking official in the administration.

Kim Hyun Joo, Lee Moo Saeng, and Jin Sun Kyu form another central axis of the story through their characters’ complicated ties dating back many years.

Kim Hyun Joo plays Yoo So Ran, a sharpshooter and member of the anti-Japanese resistance group Gugukdan. As one of the group’s leading figures, Yoo So Ran is an action-oriented fighter with exceptional marksmanship. What begins as a personal quest for revenge eventually grows into a life devoted to a greater cause and her country. In the newly released stills, she commands attention as she explains a plan to fellow members and confidently wields a heavy rifle.

Describing Yoo So Ran, Kim Hyun Joo said, “She is someone who has endured for a long time, having given up her own life and held on solely to her personal desire for revenge.” She added, “Although her journey may have begun with personal revenge, she doesn’t stop there and eventually lives for a greater cause and her country.” Kim Hyun Joo also explained that she focused on delicately portraying Yoo So Ran’s emotional transformation, noting, “Her heart, which had become cold and hardened, gradually begins to change as she meets different people.”

Lee Moo Saeng plays Yoo Philip, a Korean American correspondent and member of Gugukdan. He is also Yoo So Ran’s husband in a marriage of convenience. Using his position as a journalist, Yoo Philip plays a key role in pressuring the Political Affairs Director of the Japanese Government-General of Korea.

One of the newly released stills shows Yoo Philip looking at Yoo So Ran with concern. Lee Moo Saeng described his character as “a person with a cool head and a passionate heart,” adding, “Although he is willing to put himself on the line for the greater cause, I tried to portray him as someone who always thinks things through and has the self-control to make decisions based on reason rather than emotion.”

Opposing the two is Jin Sun Kyu as Sato Shinichi, the Political Affairs Director of the Japanese Government-General of Korea. Having risen to become the second-highest-ranking official in the colonial administration, Sato Shinichi is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve success and advance his career. In the newly released stills, he remains completely unfazed even as he points a gun at someone.

Sato Shinichi is also the target of Yoo So Ran’s assassination plot. Unaware that Lee Ga Kyeong has infiltrated the Japanese Government-General under the guise of a new interpreter trainee named Geum Seo Hee, he is unknowingly caught between the two women’s infiltration and revenge plots, raising questions about how their actions will ultimately change his fate.

Jin Sun Kyu described Sato Shinichi as “a man at the center of evil whom everyone wants to eliminate and be wary of.” He explained that he interpreted the character as someone who crosses the line in pursuit of his own desires within the power structure, ultimately trampling on the lives and dignity of others.

Watch: Lee Sun Bin Accidentally Becomes A CSAT Question Setter In New Comedy Film “Ugly Duckling Ms. Maeng”

The upcoming film “Ugly Duckling Ms. Maeng” has unveiled its main poster and trailer!

“Ugly Duckling Ms. Maeng” is a comedy film about Maeng Bo Ram (Lee Sun Bin), a Korean language teacher from a small provincial town who unexpectedly joins the team responsible for creating Korea’s College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), also known as the Suneung, due to an administrative error. The question-setting headquarters is sealed off for 40 days as the committee works in complete secrecy to create “problem-free questions” without any typos or room for dispute.

The main poster captures a meeting room inside the question-setting headquarters in complete chaos, with CSAT passages flying in every direction. At the center, Maeng Bo Ram looks utterly shocked and unsure of what to do. Meanwhile, Moon Joo Yeol (Yoo Jae Myung), the head of the Korean language question-setting committee, and Park Kyung Tae (Kim Young Min), the head of the CSAT review committee, engage in a heated confrontation across a desk. Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation employee Ki Jun Su (Jeon Seok Ho) desperately throws himself between them in an attempt to stop the fight.

The poster offers a glimpse of the intense 40-day project undertaken by the question-setting committee members as they work to create an exam that will determine the fate of approximately 500,000 students.

The newly released trailer begins on the day of the CSAT, when the entire country is on edge. As announcers report that aircraft takeoffs and landings have been suspended and the opening of the stock market has been delayed, the trailer then flashes back 40 days to reveal the chaos behind the scenes at the question-setting headquarters.

Maeng Bo Ram initially arrives at the headquarters bright-eyed and cheerful, only to be dragged into somewhere without knowing what is happening. As Ki Jun Su frantically shouts, “It’s an emergency in the Korean language department right now!” the trailer reveals that an error occurred during the recruitment process, resulting in the inexperienced Maeng Bo Ram being brought in instead of another Maeng Bo Ram who was actually a seasoned expert.

Inside the completely sealed-off facility, the inexperienced Maeng Bo Ram refuses to be intimidated as she struggles to keep up with the veteran Korean language question setters, whose heated meetings are filled with intense debates and raised voices. The trailer rapidly cuts between the tense discussions and Bo Ram’s determined efforts to complete her mission.

The trailer ends on a lighter note, with Park Kyung Tae giving Bo Ram a thumbs-up and telling her, “You did very well.” Meanwhile, Bo Ram ducks down behind the desk, cheering with delight at his praise.

5 Sun Qian C-Dramas You Don’t Want To Miss

Sun Qian’s turn as Flora has notched up the actress’s popularity quotient by a few notches. In “The Early Spring,” she plays the optimistic and hardworking rookie who steps into the world of advertising, only to get caught up in a steamy romance with her boss, Luke (Jing Bo Ran). However, beyond the drama, the actress has steadily been making her mark with performances that span romance, family drama, mystery, and crime. Whether she is playing a woman navigating complicated relationships, or stepping into darker, more suspenseful territory, Sun Qian has proven she is not afraid to explore different shades of a character.

If you are new to Sun Qian’s work or are simply looking for more dramas featuring the actress, here are five C-dramas which showcase her versatility.

“The Early Spring”

5 Sun Qian C-Dramas You Don’t Want To Miss插图

Sun Qian’s Shang Zhi Tao or “Flora” is a bright-eyed graduate who may lack the credentials, but has the drive to push herself and excel at whatever is assigned to her. However, when she joins “Lime,” one of the most sought-after agencies in Beijing, Flora understands that she is at the lowest rung of the ladder. She lacks experience and is nowhere at par with her colleagues. To make her mark, she really needs to stand out. But the issue is Luan “Luke” Nian (Jing Bo Ran), Lime’s uber-cool creative head who takes an instant dislike to her, wanting her to quit.

The feisty Flora proves she is no quitter and works hard, earning the trust of all. But things get a tad complicated when Flora, who is attracted to Luke, succumbs to his seductive charm. What starts off as a one-night stand soon escalates into a torrid love affair but with a complicated emotional dependence between the two. The major issue between the couple is their inability to communicate honestly with each other, which leads to misunderstandings, heartbreak, and a separation.

“The Early Spring” struck a chord with fans for its realistic portrayal of messy and complex couple dynamics. Sun Qian’s Flora is a flawed character with her own strengths and shortcomings, with the actor showcasing the confusion, stubbornness, as well as the sensitivity with style. The chemistry between Sun Qian and Jing Bo Ran is also the highlight of the show, with both actors making their characters feel real and lived in.

“Love Story in the 1970s”

5 Sun Qian C-Dramas You Don’t Want To Miss插图1

Sun Qian’s Fei Ni in “Love Story in the 1970s” is a bit different from Flora. She is the one calling the shots in the relationship, being extremely confident in her abilities. But if there is one thing the two share in common, it is the stubbornness to excel and achieve their dreams no matter what. Fei Ni wants to go to college but ends up missing the opportunity since admissions are on the basis of recommendations rather than merit. She starts taking care of Fang Mu Yang (Arthur Chen), a wounded soldier, in the hope that the deed would win her points. Little does she realize that Fang Mu Yang is her middle-school classmate who has been secretly in love with her.

The two enter a marriage of convenience on Fei Ni’s suggestion since she wants to get housing. As they start living together, the two navigate the many challenges and grow as people, with Fang Mu Yang encouraging Fei Ni every step of the way.

A slow-burn romance between two very different people, it is an endearing and heartfelt tale of self-growth and love. Fei Ni is an independent and self-reliant person with a resilient spirit, and Sun Qian brings forth her character’s strong personality naturally. Once again, it’s the tender chemistry between her and Arthur Chen that makes you root for this endearing on-screen couple.

“The Islands”

Sun Qian’s Tao Shu Na in “The Islands” is the youngest of three generations of Meng women whose lives, relationships, and conflicts form the heart of the drama. Each woman has her own ideas about love, marriage, family, and independence. But living under the same roof brings their differences as well as long-held tensions to the fore. Tao Shu Na finds herself caught between the expectations of the older generations and her own desire to make her way in life, giving Sun Qian a more vulnerable and layered character to portray.

Her relationship with Zhang Xiao Yan (Chen Jing Ke) adds a sweet romantic thread to the story. Their chemistry is easy and understated, with their playful exchanges and affectionate moments giving the romance a natural quality. The relationship also offers a refreshing contrast to the more complicated dynamics within the Meng family.

“The Islands” is worth watching for its warm yet honest look at family relationships across generations. It explores how women from the same family can love each other deeply while having very different ideas about what makes a fulfilling life. And Sun Qian brings warmth and sincerity to Tao Shu Na.

Lu Yan is a professional woman with her own emotional history and gives Sun Qian room to explore both her character’s vulnerability and strength. The combination of romance, mystery, and suspense also keeps the story from becoming a straightforward love story. And her chemistry with Johnny Huang is another reason to tune in.

Ryu Seung Ryong praised the chemistry among the cast, saying, “The chemistry shines in every scene our family shares. Individually, they’re lacking in some ways and struggling, but when they’re together, they finally find comfort and happiness. Jung Gu was also able to let his guard down in front of his family, speaking and expressing himself more comfortably.”

Director Lee Ji Won also expressed his confidence in the cast, saying, “It was so much fun every time we got together. They were actors who expanded what was on the page twofold.”

“Portrait of a Family” is set to hit theaters on September 2.
