9 K-Dramas Where The Leads Can See Ghosts
There’s something weirdly comforting about a K-drama lead who can see the dead. Maybe it’s because ghosts, with all their unfinished business and lingering regrets, often just want what the living do: to be heard, understood, and remembered. And somehow, the people who can see them become the ones who help them find that closure. From lawyers and cops to magicians and heiresses, K-dramas have given us plenty of characters who cross into the world of the dead and discover that seeing ghosts can be less of a curse and more of a calling. From cult classics to this year’s buzziest releases, here are the K-dramas that make the otherworldly feel surprisingly human.
“The Master’s Sun”
Kong Hyo Jin plays Tae Gong Sil, an insomniac who has been able to see ghosts since a mysterious accident. Her outwardly companions constantly pester her and make her do things for them, from settling scores, bringing justice, and helping them tie up unfinished business. The only time she finds respite from the spirits trailing her is when she touches the cold, aloof CEO Joo Jong Won (So Ji Sub).
What starts as a strange physical necessity turns into one of the genre’s most beloved slow-burn romances, with a ghost-of-the-week structure that never lets the scares outweigh the heart.

“Oh My Ghost”
Na Bong Sun (Park Bo Young) is a timid chef who has this uncanny knack of seeing ghosts, which haunts her and makes her very self-conscious. When she allows the spirit of a young woman who died under mysterious circumstances to possess her body, things get hilariously complicated. This is especially true when Chef Kang Sun Woo (Cho Jung Seok) falls for Bong Sun and the spirit also falls for the chef, making it a strangely tingly triangle.
As chaotic and funny as the premise sounds, it also has a deeply touching and haunting story at its heart, as the spirit tries to uncover the truth behind her death and is helped in seeking justice. Plus Park Bo Young and Cho Jung Seok give us the romance as well as the laughs.

“Sell Your Haunted House”
When your real estate business involves properties where people have died, closing a deal can get a little complicated. Hong Ji Ah (Jang Nara) is a real estate broker who specializes in properties where people have died or where paranormal activity has been reported. She is forced into an uneasy partnership with Oh In Beom (Jung Yong Hwa), a con artist posing as a shaman. Ji Ah soon discovers that In Beom has a psychic ability that can amplify her powers.
This show is a zippy watch, as the two hustle together for their own vested interests while dealing with ghosts who have unfinished business.

“Oh My Ghost Clients”
Noh Mu Jin (Jung Kyung Ho) is a broke, self-absorbed labor attorney who signs away his life to survive a near-death accident, only to find himself representing ghosts with unresolved workplace grievances. Along with his sister-in-law, Na Hee Ju (Seol In Ah), and a YouTuber, Go Hyeon Woo (Cha Hak Yeon), they form “Team Mujins” to represent the grudges of their ghost clients.
“Oh My Ghost Clients” is a socially conscious spin on the ghost-seeing-lawyer trope, with real anger about workplace injustice underneath all the comedy.

“Hotel Del Luna”
IU plays Jang Man Wol, the imperious, immortal owner of a hotel that exists only for spirits passing through on their way to the next world. Man Wol is a thousand-year-old spirit that can only get the window to release herself from the mortal world when she finds a new owner for the hotel. Goo Chan Sung (Yeo Jin Goo), the very human manager, gets roped into running it alongside her. She finally has hope, but love is certainly not part of the memo.
Equal parts fantasy, tragedy, and romance, this drama remains one of the genre’s most visually sumptuous entries.

“Phantom Lawyer”
Shin I Rang (Yoo Yeon Seok), a passionate lawyer, has a heart of gold. But professional success evades him, and he’s had no luck landing a single interview with any law firm. Things change when he rents an office space in a former shaman’s shop and starts attracting ghost clients instead. He’s occasionally possessed by the spirits he represents, borrowing their courage to win cases for the dead—much to the disbelief of his cutthroat rival attorney (Esom).
A feel-good legal drama with a touch of spookiness, “Phantom Lawyer” makes you laugh and shed a few tears as well as give you the thrills and twists, which make this genre so entertaining.

“Spooky in Love”
Cheon Yeo Ri (Park Eun Bin) is a hotel heiress who has been able to see ghosts all her life. It’s an ability that has made her wary of getting close to people. Ma Kang Wook (Yang Se Jong) is a sharp prosecutor whose life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Yeo Ri. When the two discover that her supernatural ability can help him solve mysterious cases, they form an unlikely partnership, with ghosts, murder investigations, and an unexpected romance thrown into the mix.
The drama blends supernatural mystery, comedy, and romance while the ghost stories add an emotional layer to what begins as an unusual love story.
“The East Palace”
Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk) is a spirit slayer who can cross between the human world and the realm of ghosts, while Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo) is a court lady who has been able to hear the voices of the dead since childhood. When the King summons them to investigate a mysterious curse haunting the East Palace, the unlikely pair are drawn into a dangerous world of restless spirits, royal secrets, and a curse threatening the royal family.
With its atmospheric palace setting, supernatural mystery, and dark fantasy elements, this show is a striking departure from the usual historical drama.
“From Now On, Showtime!“
Cha Cha Woong (Park Hae Jin) is a popular but rather arrogant magician whose spectacular tricks have an unusual secret: he employs a group of ghosts as his assistants. When he crosses paths with passionate police officer Go Seul Hae (Jin Ki Joo), who discovers his supernatural secret, the unlikely pair begin working together to solve crimes with the help of his ghostly crew.
What starts as a quirky supernatural comedy gradually becomes a touching story about unfinished business, justice, and the bonds between the living and the dead.

Nam Joo Hyuk And Roh Yoon Seo Dish On Action Training For “The East Palace,” Their Characters’ Bond, And More
The stars of the Netflix series “The East Palace” recently participated in a photoshoot with ELLE Korea!
“The East Palace” follows the story of Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), who can traverse the world of ghosts, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady with the ability to hear ghosts, as they are summoned by the King (Cho Seung Woo) to unearth the cursed palace’s secrets.
In an interview following the shoot, Nam Joo Hyuk and Roh Yoon Seo expressed their deep affection for the series. Recalling the first time he read the script, Nam Joo Hyuk said, “It was the perfect script to read at night. After just two pages, I found it so engrossing that I ended up reading all the way through Episode 4 in one sitting.”
Roh Yoon Seo also reflected on her first impression of the script, saying, “It felt like playing a game. The scenes kept playing out in my mind, and even after I finished reading it, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.”
As “The East Palace” marks Nam Joo Hyuk’s first project since completing his military service, he devoted himself to swordsmanship and action training in preparation for the role. He remarked, “During my military service, I built up a real longing to act, and I was able to fully satisfy that through ‘The East Palace.’ It was physically demanding, but it was just as enjoyable.”
Roh Yoon Seo prepared for her role through various forms of training, including horseback riding, swordsmanship, and stunt rolling. Talking about Saeng Gang’s ability to hear ghosts, she explained, “I imagined the camera’s movements as if they were the ghosts’ point of view.”
Both actors emphasized that “The East Palace” is far more than a story about fighting ghosts. Nam Joo Hyuk explained, “Not once did I approach it with the mindset of killing ghosts. I always thought of my character as someone who helps resolve the grudges of spirits with their own stories and sends them off to a better place.”
Roh Yoon Seo added that as Gu Cheon and Saeng Gang investigate the curse together, “Their relationship evolves into one that goes beyond love or friendship.”
The actors also reflected on the moments when they became fully immersed in their characters. Roh Yoon Seo chose the reunion scene near the end of the series as the most memorable, saying, “It felt completely natural that Gu Cheon and Saeng Gang had become people who truly relied on each other.”
Nam Joo Hyuk agreed, saying, “That scene was only possible because of everything we had built together from the very beginning,” referring to the gradual deepening of the bond between the two characters.
The actors also expressed their admiration for co-star Cho Seung Woo. Roh Yoon Seo said, “I learned so much from watching him build his character’s backstory, even for scenes he didn’t appear in.” Nam Joo Hyuk added, “I learned a great deal from the way he anchored the entire production.”
The two stars also spoke about the beliefs that continue to motivate them. Nam Joo Hyuk said, “I believe nothing is impossible. I learned during my basketball days that if you take action, you can make things happen.”
Roh Yoon Seo shared, “Even if you acknowledge your shortcomings, in the end, you have to believe in yourself in order to keep moving forward.”
Nam Joo Hyuk and Roh Yoon Seo’s full pictorial and interview can be found in the August issue of ELLE Korea.

Watch: “The East Palace” Director And Cast Share The Stories Behind The Series’ Production In Making-Of Video
“The East Palace” has unveiled a new making-of video!
The newly released making-of video highlights the meticulous work that went into bringing the series’ supernatural world to life, from its intense action sequences to its detailed production design.
Discussing the series’ sword-fighting scenes, Nam Joo Hyuk shared, “Since this series involves a lot of sword fighting, I spent a lot of time memorizing and practicing the moves.”
The production team also revealed the thought process behind creating the show’s spirits and otherworldly beings. The director explained, “When creating Gwi Mae or spirits from the other world, we thought a lot about how far we should go while keeping it broadly appealing and not too unsettling for viewers.”
One of the series’ key visual elements is the contrast between the real world and the Realm of Gwi. The director explained, “I wanted the two worlds to look different at first glance. We focused on color because it is the most immediately recognizable element.”
The director added, “We thought about how to make it feel like a different world. We ended up using red, amber and, later on, yellow.”
The cast members also praised the detailed production design and the atmosphere created on set, expressing their admiration for the effort that went into building the series’ unique fantasy setting.
Highlighting what viewers can expect from the story, Nam Joo Hyuk said, “Gu Cheon’s desperate and intense fight to break the curse over the palace until the very end is a highlight.”
Roh Yoon Seo added, “As you follow and dig into the story, you will enjoy trying to discover the truth.”

3 Reasons Why Nam Joo Hyuk, Roh Yoon Seo, And Cho Seung Woo’s “The East Palace” Is A Must-Watch
Netflix’s original series “The East Palace” finally premieres today!
Ahead of the premiere, Netflix shared three key reasons to tune in:
1. A Star-Studded Cast Led by Nam Joo Hyuk, Roh Yoon Seo, and Cho Seung Woo
Nam Joo Hyuk takes on the role of Gu Cheon, a man who can cross between the human world and the realm of ghosts. Reflecting on the role, he shared, “As I imagined and portrayed ghosts and the unfamiliar world they inhabit, I constantly thought about how to make it all feel vivid and believable for viewers.”
Since Gu Cheon battles spirits with his sword, viewers can also look forward to spectacular action sequences.
Roh Yoon Seo stars as Saeng Gang, a court lady who can hear ghosts. She said, “I spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of person the King and Gu Cheon are, what Saeng Gang is to each of them, and what emotions she carries toward them.”
Meanwhile, Cho Seung Woo plays the King, who is determined to hunt down a powerful spirit lurking in the abyss. “The most challenging part was portraying a king whose true thoughts remain hidden behind multiple layers of masks,” he explained.
The series also features a strong supporting cast including Kwak Dong Yeon, Jang Young Nam, Tae In Ho, Hwang Young Hee, Hong Seo Joon, and Lee Hong Nae, who will further enrich the story’s mystery and tension.
2. A Creative Team Bringing a Unique Fantasy World to Life
Another highlight is the creative team behind the series. Director Choi Jung Gyu of “The Devil Judge” joins forces with writers Kwon So Ra and Seo Jae Won of “Bulgasal: Immortal Souls” and “The Guest” to create a fantasy mystery spanning two interconnected worlds: the human world and the realm of ghosts.
To distinguish the two, Choi Jung Gyu explained that he deliberately gave each world a distinct visual identity through different colors, with the human world featuring cool blue tones while the ghost realm is drenched in ominous shades of red.
The writers also revealed that many of the supernatural beings appearing in the series are inspired by Korean folklore and legends. While some of their abilities have been adapted to better fit the story, each ghost has been carefully chosen to play a meaningful role in the unfolding mystery.
3. Stunning Production and Thrilling Action
The final highlight is the drama’s richly detailed production, which blends traditional Korean aesthetics with fantasy elements to create an immersive world.
From the elegant beauty of the royal palace to the haunting atmosphere of the ghost realm, the series promises striking visual contrasts. The action sequences—particularly those centered on Gu Cheon and Saeng Gang’s teamwork—combine dynamic choreography with VFX, inventive camerawork, and stylish editing to deliver both spectacle and emotional impact.
Complemented by atmospheric lighting, music, and costumes, the production brings the world of “The East Palace” vividly to life, enhancing its blend of mystery, fantasy, and action.
“The East Palace” is set to premiere on July 17 at 5 p.m. KST.

Watch: Nam Joo Hyuk Must Hunt A Cursed Spirit Or Lose His Life In “The East Palace”
Netflix’s upcoming drama “The East Palace” has unveiled a preview of its first episode!
The newly released teaser opens with Gu Cheon blindfolded, his hands bound behind his back as he is forced to kneel before a large pond. When the blindfold is removed, he realizes he is inside the palace just as the King approaches and stops in front of him.
The King explains, “At this pond, the Crown Prince was bewitched by a spirit and died. The spirit told me, ‘I will wipe out every last seed of the East Palace.’ Now, even my only remaining young son is on the brink of death,” before saying, “I need you to ward off that spirit.”
Gu Cheon then remarks that he first needs to inspect the palace because “the spirit is no longer at the pond.” However, after being released, he quickly makes a futile attempt to escape, only to be caught almost immediately and dragged back before the King.
The King then draws his sword and presses it against Gu Cheon’s neck, delivering a chilling ultimatum: “Mark my words. If you attempt to flee again, I will sever both of your feet. If you tell others that you hunt spirits here, I will sever your jaw. If you fail to capture the spirit and my son is harmed, I will sever your head.”
With Gu Cheon left with no room to refuse, the King warns, “If you wish to leave the palace alive, then capture the spirit at once and get rid of it. If you do so, I will grant you whatever you wish.”
The teaser ends with the King declaring, “From this moment on, by royal command, you are a feng shui master of the palace. I will assign you someone who may be of use.”
“The East Palace” is set to premiere on July 17. Stay tuned!
