“The East Palace” has unveiled a new making-of video!
“The East Palace” follows the story of Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), who can traverse the world of ghosts, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady with the ability to hear ghosts, as they are summoned by the King (Cho Seung Woo) to unearth the cursed palace’s secrets.
The newly released making-of video highlights the meticulous work that went into bringing the series’ supernatural world to life, from its intense action sequences to its detailed production design.
Discussing the series’ sword-fighting scenes, Nam Joo Hyuk shared, “Since this series involves a lot of sword fighting, I spent a lot of time memorizing and practicing the moves.”
The production team also revealed the thought process behind creating the show’s spirits and otherworldly beings. The director explained, “When creating Gwi Mae or spirits from the other world, we thought a lot about how far we should go while keeping it broadly appealing and not too unsettling for viewers.”
One of the series’ key visual elements is the contrast between the real world and the Realm of Gwi. The director explained, “I wanted the two worlds to look different at first glance. We focused on color because it is the most immediately recognizable element.”
The director added, “We thought about how to make it feel like a different world. We ended up using red, amber and, later on, yellow.”
The cast members also praised the detailed production design and the atmosphere created on set, expressing their admiration for the effort that went into building the series’ unique fantasy setting.
Highlighting what viewers can expect from the story, Nam Joo Hyuk said, “Gu Cheon’s desperate and intense fight to break the curse over the palace until the very end is a highlight.”
Roh Yoon Seo added, “As you follow and dig into the story, you will enjoy trying to discover the truth.”

Not only did “Agent Kim Reactivated” top the list of the most buzzworthy dramas, but its cast swept the top two spots—and claimed four of the top six spots—on this week’s list of the most buzzworthy drama cast members. So Ji Sub remained No. 1, followed by Seo Su Min at No. 2, Yoon Kyung Ho at No. 5, and Choi Dae Hoon at No. 6.

Netflix’s original series “The East Palace” finally premieres today!
“The East Palace” follows the story of Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), who can traverse the world of ghosts, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady with the ability to hear ghosts, as they are summoned by the King (Cho Seung Woo) to unearth the cursed palace’s secrets.
Ahead of the premiere, Netflix shared three key reasons to tune in:
1. A Star-Studded Cast Led by Nam Joo Hyuk, Roh Yoon Seo, and Cho Seung Woo
Nam Joo Hyuk takes on the role of Gu Cheon, a man who can cross between the human world and the realm of ghosts. Reflecting on the role, he shared, “As I imagined and portrayed ghosts and the unfamiliar world they inhabit, I constantly thought about how to make it all feel vivid and believable for viewers.”
Since Gu Cheon battles spirits with his sword, viewers can also look forward to spectacular action sequences.
Roh Yoon Seo stars as Saeng Gang, a court lady who can hear ghosts. She said, “I spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of person the King and Gu Cheon are, what Saeng Gang is to each of them, and what emotions she carries toward them.”
Meanwhile, Cho Seung Woo plays the King, who is determined to hunt down a powerful spirit lurking in the abyss. “The most challenging part was portraying a king whose true thoughts remain hidden behind multiple layers of masks,” he explained.
The series also features a strong supporting cast including Kwak Dong Yeon, Jang Young Nam, Tae In Ho, Hwang Young Hee, Hong Seo Joon, and Lee Hong Nae, who will further enrich the story’s mystery and tension.
2. A Creative Team Bringing a Unique Fantasy World to Life
Another highlight is the creative team behind the series. Director Choi Jung Gyu of “The Devil Judge” joins forces with writers Kwon So Ra and Seo Jae Won of “Bulgasal: Immortal Souls” and “The Guest” to create a fantasy mystery spanning two interconnected worlds: the human world and the realm of ghosts.
To distinguish the two, Choi Jung Gyu explained that he deliberately gave each world a distinct visual identity through different colors, with the human world featuring cool blue tones while the ghost realm is drenched in ominous shades of red.
The writers also revealed that many of the supernatural beings appearing in the series are inspired by Korean folklore and legends. While some of their abilities have been adapted to better fit the story, each ghost has been carefully chosen to play a meaningful role in the unfolding mystery.

The final highlight is the drama’s richly detailed production, which blends traditional Korean aesthetics with fantasy elements to create an immersive world.

Netflix’s upcoming drama “The East Palace” has unveiled a preview of its first episode!
“The East Palace” follows the story of Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), who can traverse the world of ghosts, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady with the ability to hear ghosts, as they are summoned by the King (Cho Seung Woo) to unearth the cursed palace’s secrets.
The newly released teaser opens with Gu Cheon blindfolded, his hands bound behind his back as he is forced to kneel before a large pond. When the blindfold is removed, he realizes he is inside the palace just as the King approaches and stops in front of him.
The King explains, “At this pond, the Crown Prince was bewitched by a spirit and died. The spirit told me, ‘I will wipe out every last seed of the East Palace.’ Now, even my only remaining young son is on the brink of death,” before saying, “I need you to ward off that spirit.”
Gu Cheon then remarks that he first needs to inspect the palace because “the spirit is no longer at the pond.” However, after being released, he quickly makes a futile attempt to escape, only to be caught almost immediately and dragged back before the King.
The King then draws his sword and presses it against Gu Cheon’s neck, delivering a chilling ultimatum: “Mark my words. If you attempt to flee again, I will sever both of your feet. If you tell others that you hunt spirits here, I will sever your jaw. If you fail to capture the spirit and my son is harmed, I will sever your head.”
With Gu Cheon left with no room to refuse, the King warns, “If you wish to leave the palace alive, then capture the spirit at once and get rid of it. If you do so, I will grant you whatever you wish.”
The teaser ends with the King declaring, “From this moment on, by royal command, you are a feng shui master of the palace. I will assign you someone who may be of use.”

“The East Palace” follows the story of Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), who can traverse the world of ghosts, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady with the ability to hear ghosts, as they are summoned by the King (Cho Seung Woo) to unearth the cursed palace’s secrets.
The main poster features Gu Cheon and Saeng Gang, who have become a team by the King’s order. Gu Cheon stands in the middle of a pond shrouded in the red aura of the spirit world, while Saeng Gang pulls on a thick rope tied around him. Attention is focused on how Gu Cheon, who traverses the spirit world, and Saeng Gang, who can hear the sounds of that world, will work together and what kind of chemistry they will display as they unravel the palace’s secrets.
In the accompanying trailer, an ominous aura begins to swirl around the palace, where a chilling silence hangs, and the voice of a ghost echoes in the King’s ear, declaring, “I will wipe out the King’s bloodline.” Sensing that “what happened 30 years ago” is repeating within the palace, the King summons ghost hunter Gu Cheon and assigns court lady Saeng Gang to keep a close watch on him.
Following the King’s orders, the two move in secret, crossing the boundaries between life and death as bizarre and gloomy entities reveal themselves before them. With the ominous warning that “a great calamity will soon strike the entire palace,” Gu Cheon enters the spirit world, which is filled with the energy of dark red blood, and engages in a sword dance to fight off the ghosts. As the deep-seated grudges and secrets buried beneath the royal family slowly become unveiled, the palace gradually falls into uncontrollable chaos.

Nam Joo Hyuk, Roh Yoon Seo, And Cho Seung Woo Exude Overwhelming Presence In “The East Palace” Posters
Netflix’s upcoming series “The East Palace” has unveiled character posters featuring Nam Joo Hyuk, Roh Yoon Seo, and Cho Seung Woo!
“The East Palace” follows the story of Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), who can traverse the world of ghosts, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady with the ability to hear ghosts, as they are summoned by the King (Cho Seung Woo) to unearth the cursed palace’s secrets.
The character poster for Gu Cheon, the one “who wanders into the spirit world,” shows Nam Joo Hyuk exuding intense charisma. Standing in the center of a blood-stained spirit world, Gu Cheon holds a unique sword covered in red characters, sparking curiosity about the darkest side of the palace he will encounter.
The transformation of Roh Yoon Seo into Saeng Gang, the one “who hears the spirit whisper,” is also intriguing. With blood on her forehead, Saeng Gang is shown listening to eerie voices. These sinister sounds echoing from beyond the darkness lead Gu Cheon and Saeng Gang into the palace’s mystery.
Cho Seung Woo, portraying the King “who seeks the spirits’ shadows,” creates tension with his heavy, imposing presence. His sharp gaze and the shadow covering one side of his face pique curiosity about the nature of the curse lingering in the East Palace.
The three actors also shared the key points they focused on while portraying their characters. Nam Joo Hyuk mentioned that he prioritized “the chemistry with the unseen,” stating, “I constantly imagined the invisible spirits and the mysterious spirit world while acting. I filmed every moment pondering how to vividly convey this to viewers without making it feel alien.”
Roh Yoon Seo hinted, “Because the narrative and storyline flow in such an interesting way, I don’t think it stops at being just a scary or flashy piece. With strange entities, exhilarating action, and the characters’ stories all intertwined, I believe viewers will be able to watch it without a dull moment.”
Cho Seung Woo raised expectations by saying, “It was not an easy task to put several layers of masks on the King so that his thoughts remain unfathomable. The main characters in the drama each have deep, personal backstories, and it is a compelling piece where their emotions swirl, explode, and resolve alongside the incidents within the palace.”

Netflix’s upcoming series “The East Palace” has unveiled new stills featuring its cast!
“The East Palace” follows the story of Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), who can traverse the world of ghosts, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady with the ability to hear ghosts, as they are summoned by the King (Cho Seung Woo) to unearth the cursed palace’s secrets.
The newly released stills offer glimpses of a curse hanging over the palace and the mysterious incidents unfolding within it.
The images depict events inside a palace where a beautiful yet eerily ominous atmosphere lingers. First, the King is seen holding Prince Yeongan (Jo Dan) in his arms. The King’s face as he looks at his son shows a mix of desperation and fear, while a moment in which he forces Gu Cheon to kneel reveals his cold charisma. It remains to be seen why the King, who does not believe in curses or ghosts, has summoned Gu Cheon to the palace.
At the King’s command, Gu Cheon begins investigating the curse and mysteries surrounding the palace alongside the court lady Saeng Gang. As their investigation unfolds, moments of Gu Cheon walking into a pond with a rope around his neck and Saeng Gang drawing a bow heighten the tension.
In particular, within the world of ghosts, Gu Cheon carries a markedly different presence than in reality, foreshadowing that he is a figure positioned at the center of mysterious events.
The red aura surrounding Gu Cheon and the unfamiliar landscapes hint at the existence of another space connected to reality, known as the “world of ghosts.”
Saeng Gang is also seen listening intently to sounds coming from somewhere unseen. It remains to be seen what role Saeng Gang, who can hear the voices of ghosts, will play in uncovering the truth behind the incident.
Additional stills show black vines engulfing the King’s bedchamber, along with Gu Cheon and Saeng Gang standing by a pond as they prepare to enter the world of ghosts.
It remains to be seen what curse has enveloped the entire palace, what secrets lie beneath it, and how the three characters will confront it.
